Background:
India’s food systems are facing unprecedented challenges, including climate-induced environmental degradation, economic distress among smallholder farmers, rising malnutrition and increasing social inequities. These systemic issues are particularly pronounced in regions like Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh, where communities experience both ecological vulnerability and socio-economic marginalization. In response to these challenges, the Indo-German Transformation of Food Systems (TES) project intends to support the pilot a food systems transforma(c)tion (FST) model region in Chhatarpur.The development of this FST model region is grounded in a holistic framework that emphasises nutrition-sensitive agroecological practices, community-driven planning, multi-stakeholder coordination, decentralised value chains, inclusive tourism, hospitality and inclusive governance.
Objectives:
• to setup, co-create, link and strengthen local food environment with consumer awareness and foster demand on healthy, naturally farmed foods in the food systems transformation (FST) model region
• to co-create and collaborate with other GIZ implementation partners and CSOs in the model region that work on natural farming, landscape approach, markets and capacity building
• to form and sustain a grassroots FST Committee in the FST model region
